Nowadays health and social care services is gaining more attention countries like UK because it relates to other aspect of human social life. World Health organization (WHO) and its transnational health organisation are giving continuous alarming about the health and social care in workplace. Specially, the health protection agency of UK is working for health and safety in workplace to ensure better opportunity among the employees. Therefore, the organisation, which related to improve the health care system and do all the rest activities of health and safety of the country (Sussex,et al., 2008).
Royal London Hospital (RLH) situated in Whitechapel, London, where I work as an employee, and I have been asked to find out the health and safety policy. Here, I will discuss health system, polices related to health and the procedures by merging the legislation with the perspective of Royal London Hospital. The implementing system and policies and overall the safety in the health and social care will discuss in this assignment.
There are many rules and regulation in UK laws to ensure the health and social care safety in workplace. The health and safety Act.1974, the six pack regulation in workplace, and the other UK health and safety legislation indicates how the policies, systems, and safety programme going on in UK. Safe working place, safe arrangement of working procedure, provinginformation, and instrumental training all these tasks are ensured by laws of UK.
Communicating Information: Best communication and information system on health and safety among the all workers or employee is very important. In the general employee meeting, meeting of board directories, employeescomment on regulating about the safety work place and better health opportunities are important for successful running of Royal London Hospital. I think in this perspective, Royal London Hospital (RLH) pays attention among the members and employees. From my experience in Royal London Hospital as an employee, suitable workplace and better opportunities among doctors and nurses. In the perspective of communicating information, Royal London Hospital is very positive because it ensures all the legislative rules of UK government.
Competency and training are the two words, which are more appropriate to use in the perspective of Royal London Hospital. The doctors and nurses skills, formal education, and personal experience heavily effect for better nursing for the patients. With the best practice of UK legislation Royal London Hospital is arranging continuous training n for the doctors, nurses, and the staffs.Care planning, dilemmas, and management of health policy review the system are important for communicating in health and social safety in workplace(Walters and Nichols, 2009).
The organisational structure is very important to customise the responsibilities of all level of employees. The personal duties of a signal employee are determined by the position of him in the certain institution. For better ensuring health and safety environment for the employeesof hospital like Royal London Hospital, the division of responsibility can be shown as below:
The Nurses Royal London Hospital in relation to organizational structures plays a vital role in health and social care workplace; they serve the patient with honesty. A patient has right to inform about his disease, in this perspective doctor plays an important role. It is also clear that, from top to bottom of Royal London Hospital’s employee play vital role from his perspective. A doctor must have to generalise his mentality with his patients(Gold and Shuman, 2009).Personal Skill and Competence: The role of a doctor in the perspective of Royal London Hospital is responsible to lead a patient to death or move to healthy situation. So personal skill and competency is very important to maintaining a smooth health and social care workplace. Maximising the service Quality: To maximising the service, quality of an organisation as like Royal London Hospital must have to be dedicated all the level of organisational structures. From warden to hospital director must have to skill in his position, must be active in his duties. Thus, the service quality of hospital and the level of trust must rising by ensuring these conditions
Enhance the beauty of trust: the organisational structure of an institution must have to clear the position al activities of a single employee. Here, trust between the employee and customer must have delightful, must have to good relation, mutual be understandable. Therefore, management of health and safety in accordance with the organisational structure depends fully on the inter-relation between the workers and the both the active (institutions) and passive (customers) party.
The far-reaching changes occurring in the workplace that consequently effect on system of working style among the employees. Health and safety priorities can be solved by creating more flexible proper managing the employees and worker in workplace(Stretch, 2007).In the field of occupational safety and health care system, the arising problems are alarming in recent decades. Everybody has the right to live free from risk factors in nursing home, hospital or day centre overall in workplace. A vulnerable service user must have the right to back the position with honour. No one have the right to neglect or abuse him. Psychological abuse to vulnerable service user is not allowed as it humiliating. To support in this situation is very important.
Psychological Workplace environment: the randomly changing work preference in the word, making works more complicatedand socio-economic condition and inter conflict raising psychological problem among the employee. For example, Royal London Hospital employee falls in the psychological disorder. Musculoskeletal disorder is the health problem related with work. This is also heavily effect in the employee health and safety among the employee.
Replacing Dangerous Substances: the market and industry is placing by the using technologically developed chemicals in the present day. Data shows that there are vast number of people are affected by the danger of substances. Sudden short-circuit, building collapse are making the stability of danger of among the employees. Recent statics show this is the alarming state.
To proper management and better services of any organisation risk assessment is very important. Risk assessment, planning, system procedures, and policies are inter-related with each other. The conditions for workplace accident ensure both the employees and owners. Therefore, risk assessment is powerful to the employees. Risk assessment clears the condition and other important issues in the papers. This is also positive to decide the practitioners about the ensuing aspect, and can configure technically, can solve the arising problem and if the process and procedures need can modify.
For care planning, risk assessment clarifies the condition, strength the stability of the long-term better working place. Risk assessment promotes an employee to give risk in workplace; ultimately, it paves the long and better productivity of the organization. For example, Royal London Hospital bears the all cost of an accident employee of it and cares about the employee’s family. Thus, the right for both the customers and the work practitioners are reserved. Meeting needs, maximising opportunity, and well-being are the part of the risk assessment.Health and Safety provides guidance on the responsibilities and risk assessments(Collins, 2009).The practitioners can evaluate all the possible things, which can occur and help to decide what have to do or not.
Health and safety policy is the policy, which is ensured by the organisation. The written document about the condition of working time, the risk by accident and the rules and regulations are the main point of health and safety policy. Here also reported the organization’s details and the statement, which is maintained by the organization. For example, the Royal London Hospital care about the bond written her employee. No matter what organisation or company is but the risk assessment must have to be clarified by its owner.
In future, a risk assessment is the most valuable wealth to anemployee; it contains the code of worth to the organisation for employee(Ambulance, 2011).Attacked employees need first aid. For example, when an employee are affected by the toxic Carbon Monoxide, it cause to lead a family to street, so what the worth of competence or skills, which are nurtured by the company after years and years. Therefore, it protects the right of an employee. Thus, accountability goes to organisation and his well-being must have to complete.
Health and safety programme complete the contingency of the hazards time. There should be the raising employee awareness by the organisation. The motto of it is to save the rights of employees and its customers. Therefore, it can be positive to its customers as well as it organisation.
Dilemma is a situation, where are two or arising proposal come, then one have to decide to solve the problem. However, taking decision from continuous revival aspects is confusion and having endanger problem. To implement the process and procedure, there generally not available option to choose. For example, dilemma between the service user safety and the right to take the risk are always confusing in risk assessment. When systems, process, and procedures are implemented, dilemma found out, from their one have to choose to accept. There may be arise the conflicting questions among health, safety, and social security.
For example, the cost benefit analysis is to find out the strengths and weakness of alternativeissues. In the Royal London Hospital, an employee do more works, do more jobs can fall in the possibility in danger. The night guard who is more efficient in hospital compound is more risk than other is. After all, the situation failing in dilemma between two or more contemporary issues, and proper choosing the one is the best for the customers or the organisations(Brough, 2009).Thus, the dilemma can solve the problem and can evaluate the proper decision in the policies for health, safety, and security.
There are rules and regulations to prosecute for non-compliance legislation in health and safety workplace in UK. There is the only institution to power to prosecute the institutions or customer or employees for non-compliance. Personal and professional are the two types of non-compliances I UK .Personal compliance include physical injuries, health hazards or loses, and death by occurrence or accident (Hughes and Hughes, 2008).
The UK Act -1974, of health and safety included the phrase “so far is as reasonably practicable” and the employee cannot take the risk if that is technologically impossible. Work Regulation in 1999 clears what an employee can do. Statistics shows that from $100 to $289 billion is goes for every year in UK in the perspective of health and social care Services.
On the other hand, professional compliance included the disciplinary action among the employees, and the prosecution fees by the court and the closure of the workplace. Therefore, it is clear that, both the personal and professional compliancegreatly effect on the health and safety legislation in health care and social safety for workplace. For example, my Royal London Hospital employee falls in accident must haver to compensate by the hospital authority.
As a leading hospital in London Royal London Hospital, monitor and review, every years among the staffs because, the boarding of the hospital review this. They also monitor and review by thinking some process and procedure and take steps if problem arise. All the staffs of the Royal London Hospital are asked to participate in a research programme and I am the supervisor of this report preparation processing. I have collected information to prepare the annual registration for every staff of this institution.
There are monitored health and safety policies by a specific way in my Royal London Hospital I am going to discuss it below. Generally, Royal London Hospital follow the procedures by thinking the promoting a positive health care system among the staffs. I have seen that, there are small numbers of accidents caused in the previous year that indicate a lower degree of risk among the staffs. There are also some incident. There is also some major accident, which is alarming in the current work setting.
However,we have a target to complete the goal but there are some loses of it. We complete our last year target in accordance with the accident. In Royal London Hospital authority team also review the result, they have evaluate the result. The Hospital authority has arranged a monthly meeting, which was very positive to, staffs health and safety system. The staffs are also offered open question and wanted to know their satisfaction about their health care system. The rating was positive.
For better promoting of health, positive and safe culture, the importance of utilising health and safety policies and practices in current work setting at Royal London Hospital (RLH) are very important. In the critical sense, properly utilising policies and practices are no so easy. To improve the environmental quality and better atmosphere for workplace is configured by some specific procedures.Positive feedback from RLH Staff: RLH staffs feedback has seen as positive because their current accident rate relatively low. There satisfaction rate is better than the hospital authority expected. About the diseases about environmental causes and pollution in hospital compound were taken by a questionnaire system. Therefore, there results positive as Hospital authority esteemed.Everyone has a role to play in the management of quality(Stranks, 2010).
From hospital warden to CEO were included in our programme. The psychological and socio-cultural environments in Royal London Hospital are qualified by the result. The newly initialised projects for the doctor to this hospital were fully influential. After all, the feedbacks have seen as positive, no one staffs tell about over working in hospital. The result is very positive.
Responsibilityto RLH: My own contribution to Royal London Hospital as it limited by the Hospital manger, with the proper responsibility, I have done my activities. As an information collector, I have utilises the proper ways to collect data. I have used some specific strategy to find out the right result. As my current workplace, setting is environmentally positive; my contribution to Royal London Hospital have positive affected on it. Making more workplace flexible, I have worked in RLH. .
Training from RLH: RLH (Royal London Hospital) installed some basic and advance trainings from the lower to higher-level staff. As my duty was in RLH as a project manager and collect information from the all level of staffs, the special officer trained me.
Practicing in Hospital: I am not only trained person but also I have nurtured the hospital’s rules and regulation. In every hazard conditions, I have done my duty with greater responsibility.
This paper is important as it deals the importance of the monitoring a reviewingof health and safety practises in health and social care in a workplace like Royal London Hospital. The impacts of heaths and social safety practices face what types of problems are also discussed in this paper. My own experiences re-enhance the beauty of health and safety of service users and practitioners.
